Ingredients & Materials

  • 1 Saku of Bluefin Tuna (approx. 8–10 oz)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or neutral cooking oil
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp freshly cracked black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Optional: smoked paprika or chili powder for extra flavor
  • Optional: lemon wedges and fresh herbs for serving
  • Non-stick or cast-iron skillet
  • Spatula or tongs

Instructions

  1. Pat the tuna dry with paper towels and rub with olive oil. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and optional smoked paprika.
  2. Heat a non-stick or cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat until hot.
  3. Place the tuna Saku in the skillet and sear for 1–2 minutes per side for rare, 2–3 minutes per side for medium, depending on thickness.
  4. Remove the tuna from the skillet and let rest for 2 minutes.
  5. Slice against the grain and serve immediately, garnished with lemon wedges or fresh herbs if desired.
